Project Description
The project's overall aim is to save up to 80% of energy for cooling-down of plastic products. That will mostly be achieved by employing free cooling-systems, simultaneously dramatically reducing the usage of compressors.
The newly developed process increases the temperature spread by 8 times which at the same time means an 8 times reduced pump energy as well.
Additionally the higher temperature level leads to an improved usage of the waste heat.
Project data and goals:
  • Reducing the energy input by 80%
  • Application for a patent
  • Concept Development
  • Profitability analysis
  • Final phase of green pipe
    (March 23rd, 2010)
The project green pipe, co-supported by PROFES, entered the final phase. PROFES is looking forward on a continuation of the project and a follow-up assignment: The examination of systematically using waste heat for the cooling of cooling-water by adsorption-/absorption cooling machines in combination of free cooling.
    Start of the E2020 project
    (September 1st, 2008)
PROFES is developing a new technology for optimising and using wasted heat for plastics processing -especially focusing on the re-cooling process- in a consortium with poloplast, Vienna University of Technology and Cincinnati.

    Development project Energy 2020
    (September 1st, 2008)
A new energy 2020 project has been approved within the "climate- and energy fonds (KLI.EN)" of the Austrian government for realising the technology. Right now various tests are conducted to enter the maturity phase of this new industrial development.
    Profitability Analysis
    (November 7th, 2007)
The profitability analysis as well as the market potential are fundamental for the further project development.
PROFES analysed the saving potential with investment- and
development-expenditures according to a location based in Central Europe.
    Application for Patent
    (October 22nd, 2007)
By applying for a patent the utilisation of the development has been secured for the client.

PROFES has elaborated the invention and was in charge for the technical phrasing and adjustment with the client's patent lawyer.
    Concept and Energy Balance
    (August 12th, 2007)
Elaborating the concept and analysing any energy-saving potentials. One essential aspect is to replace the intense refrigerator-compressor operating time by free cooling technologies.
Energy balances open up potential temperature levels and flow rates of heat-exchange-networks.
